Creating Your Own Run Commands

  1. Win+R to open the Run dialog
  2. Enter %windir% to open the Windows directory
  3. Alt+F W S to open the File menu, choose the New menu item, then the Shortcut menu item
  4. Go through the wizard to create a shortcut to the desired program
  5. The name you give the shortcut is what you type in the Run dialog to start the program

Free Disk Space

If space is a problem, have a look in:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

The contents of that folder are Windows Updates. They serve no purpose after installation and can safely be deleted. You could claim quite a bit of space by deleting those files. Before your rename the folder you must stop the service. Here is how:

Verify that the new software distribution folder created when you restart the update service is approxiamtely 1.5 MB in size (standard files). Restart the computer and del the folder if you have no issues.

It is also safe to delete the PerfLogs folder

Sharing Public Folders

Windows 7

Open Network and Sharing Center and change from Public to Home network (cancel Create a Home Group).

Click on Change advanced sharing settings - All Networks - enable Sharing of Public folders.

To turn sharing off, simply change from Home to Public network then disable Sharing of Public folders.

Windows 8

Go to settings charm, click on your Network, click View Connection Settings, click your Network again, turn on Find devices and content.

Open Network and Sharing Center then click on Change advanced sharing settings - All Networks - enable Sharing of Public folders.

To turn sharing off, simply turn off Find devices and content then disable Sharing of Public folders.

Windows 7 & 8

WAIT. It takes a while for all the permissions in the public folders to be changed.

Be sure that the TCP/IP NetBIOS helper service is set to manual.
